If the oil return will occur above the oil level, you will need to install a check valve (part # L200030000). LPE also offers different brackets that can. A catch can is designed to stop oil from traveling all the way through the system and storing it in a can. It separates out the contaminated oil from the blow-by exhaust gases before being recycled back into the intake to be re-burned. This prevents the used oil from re-entering the system to gum up your engine.

I have a stock LS1 Carburated with the Edelbrock/ MSD Kit. My valley tray does not have a breather like other later LS motors. I need to set up a PCV system for it but not sure whats the best way to. I don't want pressure problems and start blowing seals or have the motor running like trash. I also have a catch can with an optional breather that can be plugged. Here's a diagram of the system: You should notice immediately that the stand-alone catch can is gone now, and that tube connects directly to the forward portion of the valve cover. The new valve cover has an additional oil separation pathway that it didn't have before which serves the purpose of the old stand-alone catch can. Oil catch cans and breather tanks look similar and do similar jobs, but they serve different purposes. Oil Catch Cans Normally, the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve uses intake vacuum to relieve the pressure inside your crankcase, but that can result in oil mist and other blow-by contaminants building up on the valve and pistons, especially in direct-injection engines.

emissions can reduce the amount of oil degradation. It has been shown that a non-ingestive PCV system can double the oil life of an engine. However, the affects of PCV on oil life will vary with engine size, load, engine hours and ambient conditions. Typical Non-Ingestive Crankcase Ventilation Arrangement Vent Tube (Fumes Disposal Tube) emissions.
A catch can is designed with baffling on the inside to trap oil and vapor in the bottom side of the reservoir while still allowing the crankcase to breathe freely through a filter that's on the top side. An oil separator is placed in line between PCV hoses. It has a mesh screen and filter material that traps the oil and vapor.
I know the basics behind the purpose of a "catch can" from reading Street Commodore magazine, but how "tired " does an engine (LS1) have to be to benefit from putting one/two under the bonnet or will the can help on a "healthy" engine also. Yep, they will all benefit from a catch-can, no matter the mileage. cheers.

This is a simple PCV delete for those who want to stop messy oil from entering their intake but dont want to spend the money on a catch can. This may really help those with vararam and nitro plate so they dont have to drill holes in their maf sensors, etc. Remember! You MUST have a breather intalled to do this. What youll need:
Catch Cans 101. Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Why do we need catch cans? Piston rings do not seal 100%. As a result, pressurized gasses from the combustion process leak into the crankcase. This is known as "blow by" and a by-product of the modern internal combustion engine. Pressurizing the crankcase can lead to blown out crank seals, oil leaks.
RX Catch Can installation& PCV system The LS based motors have a PCV system that at best is pretty ineffective. This allows oil mist to enter the intake manifold causing undue carbon buildup on the piston tops & valve surfaces & detonation from the contaminated air charge. The catch can goes
