I know its been a while. I've been struggling with my mental health again, and some fairly heinous writers block. However! I've gotten past what I feel is an important chapter. Nuclear fusion is the process by which two or more atomic nuclei join together, or "fuse", to form a single heavier nucleus. ***Sweeper knew many things.*** It's true! Over his long existence, he had learned so much. He had seen stars forming and dying, had felt the magnetic field of a magnetar and the gravity of a singularity, had travelled further than anyone he'd ever met, had even seen hints of a greater truth, hidden far beyond the material and even the immaterial. But still, all he learned only made it ever clearer how little he actually knew. Sweeper was not built for scientific inquiry, his mind did not natu...

How can we make energy by blasting small atoms together? How practical and safe is nuclear fusion? *The Refugee* Uixi awoke to the sound of fluid draining as her eyes slowly fluttered open. *That felt like an eternity*, she thought, attempting to stretch but being limited by the small pod she was inside. *That’s strange*, she thought, *wasn’t the pod I was frozen in much… larger*? The pod, almost as an answer to her question, opened slowly, the fluid finally having been drained and replaced with fresh air. Or at least, it should have been fresh air, but instead her insides filled with stal... Nuclear fusion is the process by which two or more atomic nuclei join together to form a single heavier nucleus and large amounts of energy. Learning Objectives. Describe the electrostatic and strong nuclear forces and how they act to oppose or promote a fusion reaction.
Diagram of nuclear fusion. I am a physics/maths student currently undertaking semester 2 in my second year of a three year degree. I deferred my course for a while and it was restructured, there is now a new unit that teaches optics as well as introductions to special relativity, particle physics, and nuclear physics. Unfortunately some of this content was originally in units I am currently taking but the content was removed upon creation of the new unit. I am unable to take the new unit as my double degree has no ele... Nuclear fusion is a nuclear reaction through which two light nuclei of atoms, usually hydrogen and its isotopes (deuterium and tritium), are combined forming a heavier nucleus. This binding is usually accompanied by the emission of particles (in case of deuterium nuclei one neutron is emitted). Department of Energy's Nuclear Fusion diagram. Fusion takes place when two low-mass isotopes, typically isotopes of hydrogen, unite under conditions of extreme pressure and temperature to produce a neutron and helium isotope. This process produces an enormous amount of energy, several times... This is a compilation of my findings, as I stated in the title. I've learned so much that I'm not even sure where to begin, to be honest. I started this post thinking I'd share a few article links with some basic thoughts, but I've delved DEEP into a rabbit hole. Deep. Like, genuinely frightened deep. Before I share anything, I just want to say that if this ISN'T real, and Matt somehow found some creepy things online, then I am very impressed and want to applaud his and the hard work of his tea... Oct 22, 2021 · thermonuclear bomb, also called hydrogen bomb, or H-bomb, weapon whose enormous explosive power results from an uncontrolled self-sustaining chain reaction in which isotopes of hydrogen combine under extremely high temperatures to form helium in a process known as nuclear fusion. The high temperatures that are required for the reaction are produced by the detonation of an atomic bomb. Without a doubt, this was the worst part of the day. He repeatedly slapped the table beside his bed and sighed in contentment when he found the snooze button. Matt pulled the thin blanket over himself and shut his eyes again. He could sleep for a few more minutes. The student drifted back into a pleasant dream as he pulled the blanket close to himself again. The alarm beeped again and this time with it, ...
A typical HR Diagram (e.g., the one for the stars in the cluster M55, below) plots a single point per star to represent that star's color and luminosity (or brightness) as it is observed today. So, you can consider an HR Diagram of that type to represent a snapshot of a moment in the lifetimes of the stars plotted. Nuclear fusion has the potential to provide much more energy for a given weight of fuel than any technology currently in use. Source - European Fusion Development Agreement (EFDA). The diagram opposite provides an alternative view showing the iron core of the transformer poloidal... Nuclear fusion and nuclear fission are different types of reactions that release energy due to the presence of high-powered atomic bonds between particles found within a nucleus. In fission, an atom is split into two or more smaller, lighter atoms. This conflict was only resolved in the 1930s when nuclear fusion was identified as the source of stellar energy. Following Russell's presentation of the diagram to a meeting of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1912, Arthur Eddington was inspired to use it as a basis for developing ideas on stellar physics.
Astrophysicists have been able to show that the structure of stars that are in equilibrium and derive all their energy from nuclear fusion is completely and uniquely determined by just two quantities: the total mass and the composition of the star. This fact provides …
Nuclear fusion and fission are the processes by which the nucleus of an atom gains (fusion) or loses (fission) protons, transforming into a different type of atom. Both processes release energy. Nuclear fusion and fission occur in nature, for example, within a star, and artificially...

In nuclear physics, nuclear fusion is a nuclear reaction in which two or more atomic nuclei come very close and then collide at a very high speed and join to form a new nucleus. During this process, matter is not conserved because some of the matter of the fusing nuclei is converted to photons (energy).
Nuclear fusion, process by which nuclear reactions between light elements form heavier elements. In cases where interacting nuclei belong to elements with low atomic numbers, substantial amounts of energy are released.
The Hertzsprung-Russell diagram is one of the most important tools in the study of stellar evolution.Developed independently in the early 1900s by Ejnar Hertzsprung and Henry Norris Russell, it plots the temperature of stars against their luminosity (the theoretical HR diagram), or the colour of stars (or spectral type) against their absolute magnitude (the observational HR diagram, also known ...
Nuclear fusion is the process of binding nuclei together to form heavier nuclei with the release of energy. It is the process that powers the stars and of course our own Sun. Research into producing nuclear fusion on Earth began in the early 1950s with the development of the Hydrogen bomb.
In the beginning, the universe was extremely hot and dense, at around 10\^23 Kelvin. In the very first few moments of the rapidly expanding (and cooling) universe, quarks and electrons could be created. Millions of a second later, quarks became protons and neutrons -- these subatomic particles arranged themselves into hydrogen. In the first \~30 minutes after the big bang, the universe underwent nuclear fusion (primordial nucleosynthesis) and the first few elements were created; hydrogen and hel...

Cold fusion is a hypothesized type of nuclear reaction that would occur at, or near, room temperature. It would contrast starkly with the "hot" fusion that is known to take place naturally within stars and artificially in hydrogen bombs and prototype fusion reactors under immense pressure and at temperatures of millions of degrees, and be distinguished from muon-catalyzed fusion.

So I know that nuclear reactors boil water that then use the steam to turn turbines, but looking at diagrams of fusion reactors and reading articles, none I've found really seems to explain how it actually captures the energy created by the fusion and turning it into usable electricity. Does it just boil water to turn turbines just like fission reactors?
I'm currently trying to learn key concepts of astrophysics, including the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, but I couldn't help but think that the uncertainty principle would affect the measurements we took of a red giant as it is so big that it releases most of its size from the nuclear fusion reaction pushing against gravity. So, does the red giant's size create an uncertainty in measuring it?

The purpose of constructing nuclear fusion reactors is to achieve “ignition” of plasma, in order to rise Q rate for cheaper energy. Using direct conversion method for electricity production would mess all the process up as it would cool down the plasma, so ignition would fail, as the logic of using fusion.
